Ruritan membership consists of business people, farmers, professionals, neighbors, relatives and retirees all working together to make their community a better place in which to live. Among its members have been a former governor of the state of Virginia who also served a term as president of Ruritan National. The policy of Ruritan is to never discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, handicap, or political affiliation.
Since the organization’s beginning in 1928, Ruritan Clubs have served America with Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service. Ruritan is a civic service organization made up of local clubs in urban areas, small towns and rural communities. The Fort Valley Ruritan Club was chartered on March 11, 1959. We are Club # 456; Zone #4 Shenandoah; District # 9 Rockingham. It was sponsored by the Hamburg club. Complete club history from 1959-2019

Membership may be acquired only by invitation, transfer or reinstatement.
Sponsor individuals and community organizations throughout the year for special projects and educational events.
Recognize and honor our current community high school seniors.
Clean and restore the numerous cemeteries in the Fort Valley Area.
Hold an Annual Community Memorial Day Service at Detrick Cemetery, including special honor to our WWII Veterans
Operate our concession stand at the Shenandoah County Fair, raising funds that are donated back to the community in various ways.
Host Community Blood Drives.
Conduct Annual 4th of July Community Parade.
Partner with Matthew's Food Pantry by collecting can goods monthly.
Hold free-will offering benefit breakfasts to raise money for needs in our community.
